Know the Stages and Symptoms of Gum Disease
There are three major stages of gum disease: early gum disease (gingivitis), periodontitis and advanced periodontitis. Without intervention after the first stage, gum disease is allowed to progress and will cause irreversible damage, as the bacteria breeds and grows. If treated during the gingivitis stage, gum disease can be reversed.
Although patients in the earliest stages of gum disease may not have any signs, the following symptoms are reasons to contact our dental center immediately for an examination:
- Swollen, bleeding gums.
- Red, inflamed gums.
- Receding gum.
- Chronic bad breath (halitosis).
- Loose teeth.
- Teeth that have fallen out.
- Bone loss in the jaw.
